Luke Malaney has been part of Nurture by Nature since our first exhibition, Unknown Friends. Over time, the relationship has become something more than collaboration. Something closer to family.
This summer, Luke and his wife rented a house in Bennington while waiting for the
arrival of their first child. He spent his days outside, hand-carving three pieces of furniture in an open field, using salvaged wood from the area and objects he found in the shed at the house.

place. A new landscape. A first child on the way. The quiet intensity of making something by hand while everything else is changing.
They are records of a particular summer in Vermont, but also of a particular moment in Luke’s life. The place, the materials, the tools, the circumstances. All of it remains in the work.
