INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO

Nurture by Nature is dedicated to realizing the full potential of human relationships with their environments for intimate living, gathering, respite, and ritual.

Founded in 2020 by designer Kate Swanson, the Vermont-based interior and architectural design studio works across residential, commercial, and boutique hospitality formats, from ground-up builds to renovations and the fine curation of contemporary art and design objects.

Believing that design has the power to extend and personify human intentions - whether through an open invitation or a precise, artistic point of view - the studio approaches each project with a holistic perspective. Collaboration with craftspeople, artists, and makers is central to the process, allowing materiality, artistry, and construction to evolve in concert.

Guided by a devotion to craftsmanship, rich histories, and the stories that shape place, Nurture by Nature creates immersive worlds that balance experimentation with precision. At every scale - from granular refinement to complete reimagination, Swanson and her team deliver work that provides clients with a renewed sense of grounding, connection, and aspiration.

As Creative Director and founder, Kate Swanson is a certified New England Chapter ASID Practitioner and a graduate of St.Lawrence University with a minor in Education and major in Art and Art History.

APPROACH (the supportive system)

Our approach is dynamic, thorough, and deeply considered. Each project is designed from scratch, keeping us in a constant state of creative discovery. We work holistically and remain involved in every phase, from early concept through construction and final installation, ensuring continuity, clarity, and integrity throughout.

NETWORK (the dreamers)

Our network has been cultivated thoughtfully and includes architects, builders, artists, and artisans who share our values. These relationships allow us to work fluidly across disciplines and bring a rare level of cohesion and craft to every project.

SERVICES (the capabilities)

Nurture by Nature designs, directs, and oversees projects from start to finish. Our work is rooted in long-standing relationships within the art and design worlds and guided by a belief that spaces are shaped as much by human connection as by material and form.

We approach each project as a living narrative, one that unfolds through thoughtful collaboration, precise execution, and a deep respect for craft.

  • Digital and analog: Lookbooks, mood boards, and presentations to guide style, materiality, and tone.

  • Relationships are central to our practice. We work directly with artists, makers, and craftspeople, commissioning custom pieces and integrating collectible works that bring authorship, soul, and individuality into each project.

  • Selection and specification of architectural finishes, as well as fully custom furniture and lighting - working collaboratively with vendors on shop drawings and needed technical documentation.

  • Development of cohesive, functional floor plans and wayfinding through furniture placement and flow.

  • Drawings of bespoke furniture, floor plans, and elevations. Including overlays for client-facing presentations, mockups, and photorealistic renderings

  • Creation of budgets and timelines. Purchasing, invoicing, and vendor coordination using trackable systems.

  • Throughout every phase, we act as the design advocate, ensuring that the original vision is honored as the project moves from concept through execution. This includes vendor communication around lead times, custom orders, storage, and deliveries.

  • The final layer is installation and styling. Furniture, art, and objects are placed with intention, allowing the space to settle into its fullest expression.

  • Our work is not static. Through ongoing gallery access and curatorial support, we remain involved as collections evolve and spaces continue to grow over time.

POSSIBILITIES (the future)

We are intentional in the projects we take on, seeking collaborations that feel genuinely aligned and creatively fulfilling for everyone involved. Our ideal work centers on full-scale renovations or new builds, where we can engage holistically with the space, from interior architecture through finishes, fixtures, furniture, and the final layers of living. We are also drawn to singular, less conventional projects that invite experimentation, innovation, and a bit of magic.

welcome to our world, won’t you come on in?
